Research focus In her 14 years of experience in translator and interpreter training, Erida Prifti has been engaged in numerous activities that involved assessment of performance and offering of judgements and recommendations to decision makers based on predefined evaluation criteria. As a faculty member, she has chaired and served on multiple hiring committees for faculty positions at the University of Vlora. In addition, she has also served on numerous MA and BA thesis committees for the MSc in Translation and Interpretation Studies, MSc in TEFL and BA in English Language programs. During 2008-2011, she served as a long-term committee member for University of Vlora self-assessment program, carried out by the Public Agency for Accreditation in Higher Education (APAAL), as part of the quality assurance process in higher education in Albania, involving ranking, analysis, as well as systematic and comparative institutional assessments of our degree programs based on criteria set forth in the Bologna Declaration. As a linguist and editor, she has held a number of increasingly responsible positions, such as Editor-in-Chief and Senior Editor for University of Vlora scientific journals (Graduate Journal of Translation and Interpretation Studies and Mendimi Akademik), as well as test assessor and translator evaluator. For example, she is currently engaged in a nationwide subtitling project, which involves the testing and assessment of about 140 Albanian translators and then editing and proofreading translation work on a daily basis.
Research activity Erida finds great interest in mastering new technologies and is a fast learner when introduced to new things – including projects that require advanced computer skills, such as website design and electronic journal management. Her skills set includes a high degree of proficiency in HTML markup, WordPress, CSS, and video production and editing. The software programs she regularly works in are WordPress, Photoshop, InDesign, Flash, Final Cut Pro, Dreamweaver. She founded and personally maintains MTIJ, The Graduate Journal of Translation and Interpretation Studies, an electronic journal based on the Master of Science in Translation and Interpretation Studies (MTI) program at University of Vlora. The primary goals of the journal are to showcase and share graduate research, to encourage translator and interpreter education programs to incorporate graduate research into their curricula, and to provide a resource for students in translator and interpreter education programs. In addition, she also founded and maintains the MTIJ Data Pool, a collection of audio and video files from a growth-to-competence project that she has been working on since the launch of the Master in Translation and Interpretation program at University of Vlora. The Data Pool is designed to provide graduate students with a database of recorded speeches and interpreting sessions they can use to identify and analyze data relevant to their research topic, while adding their own contributions to the database, as they submit their weekly audio/video assignments for their Simultaneous Interpreting and Consecutive Interpreting courses.
