The university of Vlora “Ismail Qemali” can apply and implement projects within the framework of European Union Programs and other foreign donors such as: IPA Program, ERASMUS, Interreg, Macro – Adriatico Ionico, Med Balkan, Horizon 2020, Europe for Citisens, COSME etc.

UV has been and is a participant in some of the aforementioned programs where it has partnered with partners from other countries participating in the Program.

      • Description: The Jean Monnet FoLATE module aims to influence the formation of future foreign language teachers, currently students in the “Professional Master” programs in English and Italian language, through knowledge of the European Union, its institutions, culture and policies, especially those relating to the language, intercultural communication, language policies, the European framework of language competence references. The project aims to create an interdisciplinary perspective of teaching and learning in the wider field of European studies.

                        Description:  This project has been designed to respond most adequately to the specific needs and problems in the partner countries. Commercialization Hubs will be developed at all participating universities not as research centers, but as interfaces between higher education institutions and enterprises and society. These Hubs will attract enterprises, especially start-ups and SMEs, to the universities because of the knowledge and skills of their staff (professors and students) as well as the valuable technology that they will possess.

                          Description:  It is vital that the resilience of marine and coastal ecosystems is maintained and restored in order to allow economic growth to be achieved in a sustainable manner. However, despite best efforts to conserve and sustainably manage marine ecosystems, attempts to mitigate human threats are generally proving inadequate to halt biodiversity loss and habitat degradation. Consequently, there is a need for the European Union to turn policy objectives relating to secure, safe, clean and sustainably managed oceans into actions and impacts. The AFRIMED project will develop and promote robust protocols to restore damaged or degraded macroalgal forests (Cystoseira) and provide a framework for escalating access to other regions.

                                Description:  The presence of organic micro-pollutants, (pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, etc) in the environment is a problem that has caused great social and scientific concern in the last years. Pharmaceuticals active compounds (PhACs) are being used at an increasing rate, and end up in wastewater through excretion and disposal. The aim of this project is the assessment of the current needs for the treatment of hospital effluents and the urrent concentration levels of PhACs and the development of an efficient and competitive technology of water treatment for the removal of organic micropollutants such as pharmaceuticals and the wastewater detoxification.

                                  Description:  The project includes academic research staff in the field of teaching and pedagogy from interdepartmental departments such as Department of Language and Literature, Department of Computer Science, etc. The main objective of the project is to develop a comprehensive system for the training of lifelong competence teachers.                                 Description: The “Business Clubs” project aims to establish business support facilities in 5 cities of the cross border area. The innovation and novelty of the Business Clubs lies in the location. Business Clubs will be set up in the center of knowledge and learning; the libraries. The direct benefit of UV consists of setting up a business center in its library, aimed at improving and developing of start-ups and businesses in the cross-border area with Greece. This transforms the institution into a unit that will work with local authorities, businesses, professional associations and cross-border partners.

                                Description: The aim of the EPACTT2 project is to: 1) translate and disseminate the European Network for Smoking Prevention (ENSP) Network’s Guidelines for treating tobacco dependence in 15 languages. 2) train and accredit professionals in Europe in smoking cessation and cutting edge issues in tobacco control. The project’s future direction is to continue the development and expansion of an accredited curriculum for tobacco cessation in Europe, enhance the formulation of a network of healthcare professionals, dedicated to advancing evidence-based tobacco dependence treatment, facilitate and broaden network’s outreach in Eastern and Southern Europe.

Green-Tech-WB mobility includes 153 grants (28 for Europeans and 125 for WB) around the triangle: cooperation in higher education, research and innovation and under the umbrella of the thematic field of green technologies. Green-Tech-WB promotes European HEIs as centers of excellence in learning and research around green technologies and drives this excellence to Western Balkan countries in order to contribute to their better governance and social cohesion, as well as to further connect the region to the global economy.

                                Description: SIGMA Agile is an Erasmus Mundus project within the European Commission scholarship programme Erasmus Mundus, Western Balkans – part of a wider programme that aims at promoting institutional cooperation and mobility between the EU and other parts of the world. Approximtely 150 fully funded scholarships were available for students, researchers, academic and administrative staff from the Western Balkans to visit one of the EU partner universities, and for students, researchers, academic and administrative staff from one of the EU partner universities to visit one of the partner institutions in the Western Balkans.

                                Description: The project arose in response to the obligations of Partner Countries concerning the ratification and implementation of the latest amendments to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations related to education and training of seafarers. All necessary changes and harmonization aim to meet the prescribed international standards to be carried out by 2017, in order to enable the educational and training systems of Partner Countries keep the status of internationally recognized maritime educational and training institutions. The harmonization of the educational programs with valid international standards, ensures the survival of maritime educational institutions and their competitiveness in the international market, thus ensuring the competitiveness of the seafarers from Partner Countries, as well.

                                Description: The main project objective is to support cities, municipalities, regions involved in adopting innovative solutions in the energy sector, and strengthen them interregionally in MED countries through the ability to use an advanced green transnational electronic procurement system. The project moves in 3 main paths of action: 1. Strengthening green procurement processes in wider MED region, with emphasis on energy (eg renewable sources, green materials), through use of online supply management system. 2. Supporting actions aimed at highlighting green energy solutions, which strengthen the capacity of local/regional authorities to use and set quality green requirements. 3. Sharing expertise and best practices amongst the authorities in the project, and supporting activities of dissemination/information to stakeholders (incl. SMEs).

                                Description: The aim of this project is advancement of the foreign language studies in the region, by focusing on critical comparison of two academic practices and on regional implementation of the best European foreign language study models. The project will harmonize the foreign language studies in the region, promote cooperation in the region, enabling easy mobility of students, teachers, and ideas in general, and promote the region’s international academic credibility by: – modernization of the existing literature and cultural studies at the partner universities; – development of MA studies in Translation and Interpretation at the partner universities; – development of Foreign language for specific purposes modules at partner institutions; – upgrading of facilities and teaching methodologies to support the development of SEEPALS

                                Description: The objective of the WWQM_AVR is the building of a prototype water quality monitoring system for rivers Arachthos in Greece and Vjosë in Albania, and in addition a wireless network transmitting the collected data to a University research Lab for evaluation.

                                The strategic impact of the WWQM_AVR proposed project will be:

                                – The water quality monitoring of Arachthos, Greece and Vjosë, Albania rivers
                                – The help to the decision makers concerning the development of the areas in the two river basins.
                                – The improvement of the management of the environment in the two river basins
                                – The help in the development of the touristic sector in two river basins
                                – The help in strengthening of the interrelations between the scientists of the two neighbor Universities and the technology transfer to the groups of the University of Vlorë.

                                Description: The project aimed at the promotion of the future constitution of an Observatory for Migrations in the Adriatic Area, adequate cognitive instrument capable of a solution and valuing the resources coming from the migration phenomenon in the area but also outside the area, realized thanks to an innovative collaboration among universities, associations and third sector. The project promotes a “new vision” of the immigrant as a citizen seeking:

                                1. to encourage and facilitate the convergence and integration of all instruments of active policy and the orientation of the policy who disciplines and governs the migratory phenomenon on a cross-border basis
                                2. to strengthen the dialogue and cooperation of different subjects at various levels, representing the whole range of interests of the collective subjects involved in the migratory process: the communities of origin and destination, the associations and the migrants themselves.
